Well we didn’t think it was possible but Oprah Winfrey has been dethroned as the richest black woman in the world. Taking her spot is oil baroness from Nigeria Folorunsho Alakija. While drilling oil has made the 61-year old a very rich woman – she’s is worth an estimated $3.2 billion – she started out as a fashion designer. She was born into a wealthy family and studied fashion design in England in the ‘80s and soon founded the Clothing Label Supreme Stitches. In fact, she has been called one of the “pioneers of Nigerian Fashion”. She still stays connected to the industry through the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FDAN).
