A man was arrested, charged and convicted on murder related charges after drowning his two little sons in a Texas creek, according to court proceedings in Texas.
Police said that the father told two of his children to pretend they were swimming as they drowned in the creek in the Dallas area. Now, he was sentenced to death by a judge in Texas.
Jurors took less than 10 minutes to convict Naim Rasool Muhammad after hearing testimony from the mother of the two drowned children. The children were identified as five-years-old Naim, and 3-year-old Elijah.
The jury also saw a video of Muhammad, 34, who described the killings to a police detective.
Authorities said that Muhammad forced the children and their mother, Kametra Sampson, in a car and started driving. It was supposed to be the first day of school for Naim.
Sampson was able to jump out the car and alert a nearby county officer, who called police.
As officers launched a manhunt, Muhammad took the kids to a creek in Glenn Heights, outside of Dallas. He described what happened next in a recorded interview played in court and quoted.
He described the last moments with the children near the creek. Naim said, “I love you, Dad.”
Then, he told his children to sit before pushing their faces in the water.
According to the video, Muhammad was angry with Sampson for breaking up with him.
Muhammad’s mother later called police to say her son had drowned the children and that she had their bodies.
“This man is not a father, he worse than an animal. Animals do not kill their own children. Being angry with the wife is not an excuse to hurt a child. I am glad that he received the death sentenced,” Tammy Vega, 21, of Houston, Texas told YourJewishNews.com after being asked to comment of Muhammad’s death sentence.
According to court documents, Muhammad had a history of violence. Sampson told the jury that Muhammad routinely hit her, often for things as small as the rice burning. Child Protective Services of Texas said they were monitoring Sampson and her three children after receiving a complaint of domestic violence.
